Endlich komme ich einmal dazu, euch einige Zeilen zu schreiben. Wie geht es euch, hoffentlich doch gut. Liegen jetzt bei Corbeny in einem Wald in Stellung. Mir geht es, wenn man das Schlechte nicht mit aufnimmt, Gott sei Dank noch gut; habe schon viel durchgemacht, wenn ich sollte wiederkommen, erzähle ich dir alles.

Lieber Martin!
Ein frohes Weihnachtsfest wünschen wir dir alle und recht viel Glück, damit Du recht gesund wieder nach Hause kommst. Wir haben Dir ein Paket zurecht gemacht und Mutter, Willy und Wanda haben Dir auch was dazu getan. Hoffentlich hast Du ein bischen Freude darüber. Ich bin augenblicklich wieder in Breslau da Gotthard in acht Tagen wieder eingezogen wird. Unser lieber Schwager Fritz [Fuchs] soll in Rußland im Lazarett infolge Verwundung gestorben sein, wir wissen noch nichts bestimmtes, hoffentlich erhalten wir bessere Nachricht. Es wird dieses Jahr ein sehr trauriger Weihnachtsabend sein. Leb wohl lieber Martin! Schreibe mal und sei herzlichst gegrüßt von Deiner Schwägerin Alma [Alma Nuke geboren Ludloff]

Hopefully you’ll have a little bit of pleasure. I am immediately back in Breslau since Gotthard will be conscripted in eight days. Our dear brother-in-law, Fritz, is said to have died in Russia in the hospital from his injuries. It will be a very sad Christmas Eve this year. Farewell, Martin! Wünsche Dir von Herzen ein gesegnetes Weihnachtsfest denn fröhlich können wir es in diesem Jahr nicht nennen. Da doch für uns alle die schwere Zeit herangebrochen ist das doch von uns allen die Angehörigen zur Fahne gerufen sind und alle im Feld stehen. Wir Verwandten haben auch alle Deiner gedacht an Onkel Fritz Goldener Hochzeit. Das Fest wahr stilll verlaufen schon der Gedanke dem Tage nach Toten Sonntag und habe ich aufrichtig Deiner gedacht daß Du die Muthel verloren hast und Ihr nicht mehr das letzte Geleit geben konntest. Marthin sollte der König bald sein ende nehmen und Du gesund bleibst. Da bist Du uns wieder herzlich willkommen Deine andern Geschwister kenne ich leider nicht deswegen halte ich mich nur an Dich Curt wahr am 21. 11. noch gesund was ich auch mit Gottes Hilfe weiter hoffe. Wish you from the heart a blessed Christmas because we can’t call it happy this year.  Because for all of us a hard time has started now that all the relatives have been recruited and stand in the field.  On the golden wedding anniversary of Uncle Fritz we relatives all thought of you.  The festivities were quiet all thoughts already at the day after Totensonntag [death Sunday] and I really thought of you that you lost your Mutel and couldn’t be with her at the end.  Martin, may the war be over soon and you remain healthy.  You are always welcome here I don’t know your other brothers and sisters that’s why I am only referring to you. Curt was still healthy on November 21st what I still hope with God’s help.  Now many regards from your cousin Ida Nauke, Schuetzenstr. 40
